well sir, the music is correct. The problem is that I have put my dynamics above the notes to hear the result. You can not print a document like this. Admin said that if all my dynamics were placed under the notes, they normally operate. Unfortunately I think this is not the case and I'll get a very concrete example to demonstrate the problem.
The specific VSTi instruments are important, as well, which makes it all the more complex . . . For example, if an instrument is recorded in only one version where the musician is playing
forte, then for all practical purposes nothing a computer does will be able to make it sound completely accurate and realistic in every respect with a
mezzo piano dynamic . . .
I tend to side with the composer regarding how a piece is supposed to sound, where for example in the recent experiments using Mirosolav Philharmonik VSTi instruments for Zblogny's outstanding composition "La nuit Leïla", using a "Solo Trumpet" tended not to sound so good with respect to dynamics, but once I realized that it was supposed to be a "Solo French Horn" and made the replacement, it sounds very nice and all the dynamics work smoothly . . .
In other words, at some point it probably becomes a matter both (a) of the specific behaviors of Notion 3 and (b) of the specific behaviors and characteristics of the VSTi instruments, since there is considerably synergy involved . . .
Consequently, my general strategy is to focus more on discovering ways to make everything sound like I desire it to sound, and if one technique simply does not work, then I try another technique, which from my perspective is the
practical solution . . .
Another reality is that if a violin must have the tonal qualities of a Stradivarius violin, then for the most part it needs to be a Stradivarius violin, but even then the selection of recording microphone, studio, and so forth has significant influences, where for example using a low-quality microphone might make an otherwise superb Stradivarius violin sound like a kazoo . . .
On the other hand, identifying inconsistencies in computer software is helpful, as is submitting "bug" reports, which is fabulous . . .
Fabulous!
P. S. If you think that quirky behaviors in dynamics are annoying, then wait until you start trying to make sense of using Notion 3, Reason 5, and a DAW via ReWire, MIDI, or something, which is my current focus with the DAW being Digital Performer 7.22 on the Mac (OS X 10.6.6), where from my perspective the biggest problem is that Reason 5 (Propellerhead Software) is
not a VSTi instrument, but this is another topic, really . . .
Really!
