they are just ordinary let ring :?

its rare to see a guitar guy writing Disco song in my reality
which is one of my unfavorite genre
along side with rap hip-hop
but wait...ladies underpants !? :D

whats that under the hi-hat ?
wind-chimes ?

LET IT RING

The "let it ring" technique works with the MachFive 3 "Telematic" electric guitar when it is set to "Legato" with a value of "5", but it also works with one of the MachFive 3 Jazz Stratocasters, so it is a bit selective and probably does not work the same for all VSTi virtual instruments . . .

None of the other guitar articulations work with MachFive 3, but "let it ring" works . . .

DISCO AND POP SONGS

DISCO and Pop are easy genres for me, even though electric guitar and electric bass are my primary instruments, but this started on New Year's Day in 2010 when after I had consumed huge quantities of very strong coffee and was listening to a favorite Melodic Death Metal song, "Ravenous" (Arch Enemy), at which time I started understanding some of the lyrics that the lead singer, Angela Gossow, was screaming, where primarily I liked the song because of Daniel Erlandsson's drumming and the electric guitars . . .

"Ravenous" (Arch Enemy) -- YouTube music video

Prior to that, I had no idea what the lyrics for the song were, but once I started making sense of the lyrics, it became clear that Angela Gossow needed to be spanked, so I wrote a song about her underpants . . .

"(I Want) Angela Gossow's Underpants (Ya-Ya-Ya)" (The Surf Whammys) -- YouTube music video

And then I realized that several other female vocalists needed to be spanked, although it actually is a bit of silliness to avoid being bored when I am studying Pop songs; and the DISCO aspect is secondary but also a bit silly, since for the most part Pop songs these days are not so different from DISCO songs of 1980s . . .

For example, Lady Gaga needs to be spanked for the line, "I want your everything, as long as it's free"; Britney Spears needs to be spanked for the line "'Cause you feel like paradise, and I need a vacation tonight"; and Miley Cyrus needs to be spanked for the line, "Who owns my heart: Is it love or is it art?" . . .

THE REALLY BIGGER DRUMKIT

There is a small set of chimes under the stack cymbals to the front left, but although it is not so easy to see, there are small hi-hats underneath the standard hi-hats to the left, and the way it works is that when the hi-hat pedal is pressed it plays the standard hi-hats, but when the pedal is released it plays the smaller set of hi-hats underneath, which maps to being able to play two sets of hi-hats and the tambourine on top of the standard hi-hats in one foot pedal up and down motion . . .

The Really Bigger Drumkit is very carefully designed to make it possible to play several things in one motion, where for example the large stack of cymbals to the right is angled to make it possible to play the wood block, three cymbals, and a lower cowbell, while landing on one of the tom-toms, all in one rapid motion . . .

The cymbals are inexpensive and do not sound very good the way the come from the factory, but I drill holes around the edges, perhaps 2" interior", and put metal rivets in them, which transforms them into sizzle cymbals that sound good. If it is a piece of junk cymbal, then I put rivets on it, and it sounds good . . .

And since there is so much percussion stuff located at varying distances, I use 22" drumsticks that I make from 5/8" oak dowels, so that it is easier to play stuff quickly without needing to lean or whatever, which is fabulous . . .

Fabulous! :)

i tried more test in these days
no luck :?

just tested Finale2014 demo for this issue
Finale can do bend, slide for VSTi
(with Kontakt loaded Kompakt, Proteus VX stuff
i dont think the 90MB Proteus has any bend/slide sample)

so i guess...its probably the problem of Notion's code

talking about pop song lyrics
i dont think lyrics come from those artists
its likely come from their producers
probably the company pay more $ to producers
then make those artists as the lyric writer

i was a metal fan in my teenage 8-)
but the passion gradually faded
(because i found Metal really is not what i want)
later i turned to classical music
read many theory books
i think ..among the best is Laitz's complete musician
and i recommend this book to anyone want to learn harmony
Now i listen to japanese songs
IMO their overall texture is hard to beat
their arrangers pretty good at making background pads, intresting bassline
indeed i learned a lots when i transcribing their songs

haha how long it took you to finish 'cymbals transformation' ?
weeks ?

Drilling the holes for the rivets takes about an 30 to 60 minutes; and installing the rivets takes another 60 minutes . . .

The key is to be very careful and to wear heavy leather gloves, because if the drillbit gets stuck in the hole, it will spin the entire cymbal very quickly, which can be very dangerous . . .

Also, you need to smooth the edges of the rivet holes with a metal file to avoid cuts; and this also applies to the end of the rivet rod that you trim one the rivet is installed . . .

[NOTE: I use 1/8" steel rivets, which are easy to install; and the holes are 5/32", which works nicely . . . ]

Overall, it takes about two hours per cymbal, and it makes a piece of junk cymbal sound good, since the rivets help control the harmonics, and the rivets add a "sizzle" texture as well as a bit of damping (less ringing) . . .

Sometimes, I add jingle bells to cymbals, which is an interesting texture, and the more stuff you add to a piece of junk cymbal the shorter it rings, which usually is good, since it increases clarity and crispness . . .

One way to explain rivets is that they are like a distortion or overdrive pedal for cymbals, so a cymbal that does not have pure tone will sound good when you "sizzle" it . . .

Lots of FUN!
:)

P. S. You can see the mini-Hi-Hats in the second photograph, which are two separate items, one of which is the mechanical rig and the other of which is a pair of small cymbals that I "sizzled". When the foot pedal goes down, the standard Hi-Hats close and the mini-Hi-Hats open, but when the foot pedal is released the reverse happens. I had to add a more powerful spring to support the extra weight of the mini-Hi-Hats rig, but it was easy to do, although it took a while to find the correct strength of spring . . .

At the time I got the basic drumkit, it was the lowest priced drumkit that Musician's Friend sold; and if you did a search on "piece of junk drumkit", this is one that would be displayed . . .

However, the interesting aspect of Pulse drum shells and hardware is that they actually are well made and very sturdy, so if you know how to install and to tune drum heads, this is a very nice professional quality drumkit . . .

The "357" model Pulse cymbals are top of the line in the Pulse universe, and the larger diameter ride cymbals are not too bad, but the other cymbals have no tone until they are "jingled" and "sizzled", which works nicely . . .

I upgraded the drum heads to the same REMO® models that John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) used on his drumkit, and this significantly improved the tone . . .

The 10" tom-tom has the Pulse factory drum heads, so I need to upgrade it, but otherwise everything sounds good and is nicely tuned according to the tuning rules provided by Prof. Sound in his "Drum Tuning Bible v3.0", which is fabulous . . .

[NOTE: This is the link to the PDF version, which is the one I use . . . ]

Drum Tuning Bible v3.0 (Prof. Sound) -- PDF (598KB, 52 pages)

Fabulous! :ugeek:
