Slidewayz wrote:Hi,
I've been using Notion 3 for a while, but suddenly it is prompting me for my Installation ID, which I cannot retrieve because it claims my 'demo' version has expired.
As a registered user, I logged into my Notion account and was able to retrieve my license code, but again I was prompted for the 'installation ID', which AFAIK is not possible to retrieve.
Any ideas/suggestions on how to start using the software I paid for once again and how to avoid it arbitrarily deciding I'm a demo user would be most appreciated !
Thanks !!!
The only things that come to mind at the moment involve operating systems and user accounts . . .
QUESTION: Which operating system and version are you using (Mac OS X or Windows, including specific version)? QUESTION: Have you recently upgraded to a new version of the operating system? QUESTION: Have you recently installed any new software (VST plug-ins, VSTi virtual instruments, or whatever)?QUESTION: Have you recently added any new hardware to your computer? [
NOTE: The reason for asking about newly installed hardware is that some types of licensing software use a "Digital ID" which is generated based on examining the specific hardware of the computer, which can include the GUID (globally unique identifier) of hard drives and other stuff, so if you swap hard drives, install an additional hard drive when your computer has more hard drive slots, and so forth, this can cause the Digital ID to change, which in turn will cause some types of software licensing applications and services to consider that you are running the software on a different and currently unauthorized computer. Windows did this for a while (and perhaps continues to do it), which was one of the reasons that I decided to switch to Mac OS X over a decade ago, since when they first started doing that paranoid nonsense, it was vastly annoying to me to have to call Microsoft to get a new authorization code or whatever when I added a hard drive, memory, or whatever. But this also happens on the Mac, where as an example when I upgraded to Lion I did it on a new hard drive cloned with SuperDuper! (Shirt Pocket), and some of the music production software required doing a bit of authorization refreshing, where Digital Performer 7.24 (MOTU) required me to insert the original Digital Performer 7 DVD media to verify that I had a license, which took about 5 minutes once I found the original DVD media, which took another 5 or so minutes, since I keep all the DVD media in a specific place so that it is easy to find when stuff like this needs to be done . . . ]
QUESTION: Are you running the current version of NOTION 3 or an older version? QUESTION: Are you using the same user account that you were using when everything was working nicely? I am running Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion) here in the sound isolation studio, and everything is working nicely, and I upgraded from Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) to Lion via the Mac App Store, which is different from starting on Lion with a new Mac or doing a new install with the DVD media from the Apple Store, where in the latter instance one flattens or "scrubs" the hard drive and then installs all the software (operating system, then all applications and so forth) . . .
As best as I have been able to determine, the folks who have reported problems with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) in other digital music production forums typically started with new machines running Lion rather than existing machines that were upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion . . .
On the Windows side, there probably are similar scenarios, but I have not done much in Windows recently, so it is best to get advice on specific scenarios from some of the folks who use Windows for the digital music production needs, although as I recall there is a specific scenario where software needs to be installed with an account which has administrator privileges or whatever, which actually is similar to what happens on the Mac, although most people do everything with an administrator privileged account on the Mac all the time, which certainly is the case here in the sound isolation studio . . .
Another possibility is that there is a new version of the licensing software that might not be compatible with older versions, and in this scenario you recently installed some new software which in turn updated the licensing service in a way that is incompatible with the NOTION 3 licensing service . . .
As an example, there is a fellow running Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) who is having problems running some of the IK Multimedia VSTi virtual instruments, and the problem appears to be related to the authorization software that IK Multimedia uses, although until the problem is corrected it is difficult to determine what is happening . . .
In both operating systems (Mac OS X and Windows), all it takes to cause problems is one file being unavailable or having incorrect privileges, and this stuff can be a bit difficult to diagnose, which leads to the
best strategy for resolving the problem, which is to
contact Notion Music Technical Support, since they will be able to solve the problem . . .
Lots of FUN!
P. S. My thinking regarding asking the various questions (see above) is that with more information, someone might recognize the problem and have a solution for it . . .
I can provide a bit of general help if you are on the Mac and are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion), at least with respect to checking folder locations, permissions, and so forth, and there are folks in this FORUM who can provide expert help on general Windows problems, some of which are easy to correct, as is the case with some of the Mac OS X types of problems, but for some types of problems you need to contact Notion Music Technical Support, as is the case with some types of problems with IK Multimedia software, because among other things resolving the problem might required resetting authorization codes in the vendor database, hence only the vendor (Notion Music, IK Multimedia, or whatever) can do this . . .
Folks in this FORUM can help with some types of problems, but other types of problems require contacting Notion Music Technical Support . . .
