for some stuff i'm working on, i don't really need most of the instruments in the score to be playing (or even loaded)...is there any way to just not load any sound at all for a part? having pianos playing all the unassigned parts is sort of nice, but in this case, a bit annoying...

yes, a lot of what i'm doing at the moment is working with imported midi. in which case, all imported midi tracks are assigned to Basic Staffs, which all play pianos

yes, i could just mute them in the mixer...it looks like that's how i'll have to do it!
cheers,

I think you could also assign the staff to a MIDI output rather than an internal instrument, but not have any instrument hooked up on that MIDI output (or on the channel you assign to the staff).
