Concert pitch vs Concert tuning in big band saxes

Postby posssu » Sun Feb 07, 2010 5:57 pm

I have a problem with concert pitch / concert tuning. Concert tuning is most of the time what I want, but when working with saxophones it's anti-helpful. See the attached pictures: the tenors and baritone are thrown above the alto. See the picture of Concert pitch - this is how it really is and now you get the picture of the whole harmony.

Is there any way concert tuning could give you this kind of view on saxes as well instead of throwing them up an octave from concert pitch? Is this how it should look like or is there something wrong with "Concert tuning" with saxes? How does it pick the octave to be used?
