suggestion: try using a "tr" (trill) marking over a single long duration note, so that the trill extends across the entire note duration.

This is a common way of notating a drum-roll in many percussion music writings.

I am uncertain if this will work well for you or not, depending on which sample-library preset you are using in Notion.

Hope this helps. Other people may have found different or better ways also, so try searching the forum too.

Hi all.
Altought *trill* is the right way to score a timpani roll, it doesn't work in Notion, at last with its own timpani sound.
You need to enter a *fast tremolo* (three */* one on another) on the stem of the note you want to roll to obtain the effect (and repeat it on every note if you have one that come across tied between more bars).
I don't know for other sample libraries.

Ps. Speaking of timpani:
a. has anyone else noticed they seems a little bit out of tune?
b. How do you achieve a *secco* (hit and suddenly stop the sound with hand or baton held firmly on the surface) effect, since *staccato* articulation seems not to work? Maybe creating an heavily gated timpani sound+channel and inserting it as alternate istrument?

Greetings
