GPO4 & Notion4

Postby ldiazmusic » Sat Nov 30, 2013 12:20 am

Hello everyone!
I'm new here so pardon me if I'm sharing this in the wrong place within this forum. I just need immediate help please.

I just purchased Notion recently and I sure love everything about it. I integrated Miroslav and it works wonderfully! Then, today I added Garritan Personal Orchestra 4 and things don't seem to be working well (actually not working at all!)
I use GPO4 with Finale 2010, Pro Tools etc without any issues. But for some reason, when I add any of its instruments into an open Notion project,if I try to type-in say, a quarter note, it just crashes the program :?

In summary: I open a project. Then I can add any part from Miroslav, or Notion's built in library and work flawlessly. If I add anything from GPO4 and try to write a note in, it automatically crashes Notion.

Any help will be appreciated. I haven't contacted support yet thinking its probably not a big deal and perhaps some mistake I'm making or something?

Please make sure that all applications are running in the same bit mode. We are not really having any trouble with GPO. I think that maybe you may be having a bit conflict.

Let me know…

Also, there are a lot of VST's out there. VST's and VSTi's as an architecture are supported by Notion. Although, there are some that are more suited for notation as a writing style. We support those VST's and VSTi's the best. I have not had much trouble loading VST's or VSTi's into Notion. Sometimes there is a difficulty trying to make some of them work in a notation environment. We do our best to play with VST's, but you must remember that they are third party software and sometimes the problem is not related to the Notion application, but rather the VST or VSTi that is currently being hosted. Make sure you are updating them for your operating systems and make sure that Notion is updated as well.

Another problem that seems to rise up very often, and is the reason that I suggest the previous solution is that computing is living in the in-between. That is, we are in the middle of the transfer from 32-bit to 64-bit computing. Some VST's and VSTi's have made the switch and some have not. That means that as users we must plan ahead which plugins we buy and which ones will be used in the music that is being written. If you plan to use a VST that is 32-bit, start your files in 32-bit. You will lose a lot computing power and massive amounts of RAM, so this has to be managed.

If a plugin is not going to update to 64-bit, do not buy it. You will be stuck.

VST's have stayed in the wild west in a lot of ways. There are so many ways to configure them and Notion is the open range. If there is a relatively new VST that you are having trouble with, let us know.

Currently, we support Vienna Symphonic Library very well. We also have some support for East West Play. Kontakt is getting easier to deal with and that is going to open a wide range of instruments and libraries for users to play with in Notion.

Most VST plugins will work very well if you use the correct bit modes. I have only seen a small number (maybe 2) of freeware VST's that do not work. There are some plugins that do not work well. Recently there were some users that were having some trouble with TruePianos and settings that were not being saved in certain instruments within the TruePianos software. TruePianos has a utility on their site that was made to fix the issue, but it did not resolve the matter for me. I say this just to provide an example of how this works. I am reasonable certain that the issues will be resolved, but we at Notion have no control over when or how that is done.

Keep testing them, and keep letting us know which ones are working and which ones are not. I would love to see more input on the forum about VST's. It helps us to know more about what is happening, and it gives us direction to see where users are going. The future of Notion and VST's, Plugins, Rewire and external support is bright and big. It seems there are more and more users getting out of the Notion box and into external third party plugins, and the more of you there are, the better the support wil be.

Friends,

I did contact support and they surely got back to me soon! I was advised to reinstall GPO. That didn't work but, I figured I should check GPO to see if I had the latest Aria Player version from Garritan and sure enough, it was behind... I finally found their latest update, installed it and voila! All working now :)

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank the Notion team for all their hard work and enthusiasm to put a product like this available to all of us at such an affordable price!!

God bless everyone and Merry Christmas!
