Switching instruments after you've started

Postby mrfusion » Mon Sep 23, 2013 5:06 pm

I've setup a score and wrote some music but now I think I want to change the instrument.
Is there an easy way to do this? I've looked through the docs and this forum and couldn't
find any mention of it. I suppose I could create the new instrument then copy and paste what
I've written so far - I'm just looking to see if there's an easy way to swap them before I do that.

Thanks

To change the instrument entirely, place the cursor on the staff and press Cmd-Shift-T (Mac) or Ctrl-Shift-T (Win). To change the instrument at a certain point in the score (for instance, if a player switches from Flute to Piccolo), place the cursor on the staff and press Shift-I to select the new instrument.

Best wishes,

I am thinking you are trying to switch the instrument that you are using. To do this, go to Score Setup by pressing Command [CTRL(PC)] + T or by pressing the gear wheel icon at the top of your screen.

Then, next to the instrument you want to change, press the Gear wheel that is next to the staff. A dialogue box will appear allowing you to select the instrument you would like to use from the instrument banks that are saved to your computer. You can also set the staff settings of a particular instrument in that same dialogue box and rename the instrument to your desired name.

PS. What thorrild is talking about is the capability to change instruments on a staff as your score is progressing. This is a very useful tool especially if you have an instrumentalist that is doubling and you need to print only one part. Eg., The clarinet player also plays saxophone.

More detailed instructions on these functions can be found on 11.3 and 11.8 of the manual.
