Solution for Harp glissando?

Postby mrarnesen » Tue Oct 16, 2012 1:29 pm

Hello Notion friends,

I wonder if you have any solutions for how to get a glissando between staffs for the Harp? As you might know already this won't work in Notion, and it looks so amateurish to write it on one staff and change the clefs. Can't send it like to to any publisher :?

Same problem here... Unfortunately there is no work around... I mentioned that before, hope Notion 4 corrected it, also writing across staff for piano too!

How it looks is another matter, but if the focus is on how it sounds, then the simple solution is to create a separate single treble clef staff for harp and to use a VSTi virtual instrument harp like the one in Miroslav Philharmonik, as demonstrated in the following fabulous new Surfwhammy composition "Not So Blue American In Paris", which is fabulous . . .

"Not So Blue American In Paris" (The Surf Whammys) -- Miroslav Philharmonik Full-Range Harp -- QuickTime Movie -- MOV (1.2MB, approximately 27 seconds)

Fabulous! :D

P. S. On a related note, IK Multimedia is having one of their stellar "We've lost our minds!" discount extravaganzas, where until the end of the month (October 31, 2012) you can get the Total Studio 3 Bundle for $249 (US), and this bundle includes all the IK Multimedia VSTi virtual instruments, AmpliTube 3, CSR Classik Studio Reverb, T-RackS 3 Deluxe, and 15 additional Multi-Sampled Instrument Collections, which is a truly mind-boggling discount, really . . .

Total Studio 3 Bundle (IK Multimedia)

Really! :ugeek:

Thanks,

in this case I don't care how it sounds, just how it looks. And it must look professional ;)

And regarding the sale, right now I'm checking the Native Instruments site every day to see if Kontakt 5 will be on sale, as that's what I need mostly now ;)

If you send the publisher printed copies, then you could print it without the glissandi but then draw it with an engineering drafting pen after the fact . . .

Regarding watching for discount sales, I got Kontakt 5 last year for half-price ($200 [US]) when Native Instruments had a 50-percent discount sale for a few days over Thanksgiving weekend in the US. It was just for a few days, but I was on their mailing list and saw the email in time to do it . . .

[NOTE: Over the past few years, once a company has a discount sale, they tend to repeat it using the same general schedule, which for example is what FabFilter Software Instruments does, where they have a summer discount sale and a winter discount sale, and once you have one of their products, you get discount pricing on their other products . . . ]

This was during the time when there was a discussion about handbells here in the FORUM, which was focused on the lack of a full-range set of handbells, and after doing a bit of research I discovered the stellar full-range handbells sample library from Bolder Sounds, which in turn required the Kontakt Player, but the information provided by Bolder Sounds indicated that having the full version of Kontakt was better, since it does not have the limitations of the free player, so I did the same thing you are doing, which was to watch for a discount sale, which is fabulous . . .

[NOTE: They also have a very nice set of crystal glass samples, as well as other typically specialty types of instruments, including zithers and different types of specialty keyboards, all of which have excellent tones, textures, and a variety of articulations . . . ]
