Hello,
I'm trying to rehearse with a group musicians. First with a slower tempo.
I would like to count off a tempo in Performance Mode.
The solution I have found is to add an extra bar before the piece. In that bar I can count off a tempo (with repeating the A key) and then jump into the piece with this tempo (by pressing the U key).
Is there another option, without changing the score by adding this bar?

You can always just tap the tempo that you want to go with using the NTempo functionality. You could always count the bar off without the extra bar for the musicians and start tapping for playback on the dowbeat. Then after a couple of beats, strike "U".
Other than that, I think you have found the solution. But, what is it, that adding the bar to the beginning of the score causes? Maybe if I knew the goal of not having the added measure, I could offer you a solution.

Maybe is he afraid of having bar count altered?
But you can turn this added measure into a "pickup" kind of measure (right click on the measure, last item of the pulldown menu) so it counts as "0" and your score actually starts at "1" again.

Re: Performance: How to count off a tempo before start?
Thanks for the solution for the upbeat that keeps the bar count in order.
My other practical situation is that sometimes I have to perform with my instrument together with the musicians in the first bar. The only option I see is to really change the note value of the tempo in edit mode. Or do I miss another option?

1. Set up a clave staff.
2. Place the proper beat divisions in the Pick-up bar.
3. Press play and you have now added a Click Count-off in the pick-up bar. Everyone can follow along if you conduct or if you need to be able to play.
