Text to mark movements in a score

Postby GaryExo » Thu Jan 17, 2013 5:33 am

I haven't been able to find a way to insert text for movements within a work. It seems to me now that there is no specifically designed method to do this. Why not? The text tool will only attach itself closely to a staff and the rehearsal mark looks all wrong and also has restricted placement. This is a glaring omission from the software, I think. :(

I'm not sure what you are wanting to do. Can you post an example?

Gary,

Easiest way is to «template» your first movement and restart following movements from with new «title page».

This is my way ! it is simple, easy, flexible and light !

Hope to help

@pcartwright: I simply want to add numerals I, II III, IV to the score. Very basic stuff!

@Migot: Merci, Alain. That would work I suppose but it means having a work split into different files which isn't ideal.

I'm just so surprised to find no way to do this.

I discovered a way to do it.

Score > Add Title, Header, Footer then select Subtitle. This will allow you to place a lovely I for the first movement of your opus in just the right position beneath your title.

Forget that, it's not a complete solution because there is no option to specify pages for later in the score. So, it can add the marking for your first movement but not any following movements. Shame, I thought I had found it there. :(

I know it is not an ideal option, but you could put them in as rehearsal marks. You could then right click on the first measure of the movement and force it to the next page. Not ideal, but it would allow you to quickly move from one movement to another from the rehearsal drop down list.

Or, again not ideal, you could force measures to a new page and add text to the top most staff with your movement name/number.

I always make each movement a separate document...

I've run into this problem as well. Seems to be a lack in the program.

Yes, I've reverted to rehearsal marks for now as this seems to be the best means to do it while keeping everything in one document.

What Notion could do in the future is simply add an option to the existing Add Title, Header, Footer menu whereby one could select any specific page for adding the subtitle. That's all that's needed.
