Problem with entering chords

Postby john mercury » Thu Nov 08, 2012 1:12 am

Hi, I bought Notion 4 over the weekend and love it. However, when I opened up a piece to work on it I cannot enter any for of a chord. If i try to create an 8th note diad, triad, etc it pushes the note(S) first note up an 8th note. I've tried this on all instruments, including ones that I'd previously have any form of a stacked chord. If i go back and try to add to an existing chord form it pushes that bar around as well. I did pull up another piece and was able to create multi note stems, chords, etc. Not sure if I selected an option in error or what. I went through every menu item at least 4-5 times. Only thing that changed was I d/l the brass section expansion, installed it and am using the trombone section.

Thanks in advance,
Johny

I'd like to help you but I can't understand what the problem is.

Maybe you have entered notes in different VOICES? In Notion you can enter notes in up to 4 voices. Maybe you hit CTRL-2 (or 3 or 4) accidentally at some point, so the notes already on the score belong to a second, third or 4th voice and not the main voice.

Go to menu view->show->show voice colors, so different voices will be shown at different colors.

Hi Johny,

In the top-right corner of Notion 4, there is a keyboard icon that you press to bring up the keyboard entry graphic. When you see the keyboard after pressing the icon, you will see two buttons that have note-heads on them. The first one with the single note head on it will set the entry to melody mode, and the second turns on Chord Mode. Toggle these to change the mode.

Thanks for chiming in folks. It's appreciated. I am entering chords correctly. I've email Brian in tech support, who has been great, some desktop videos showing me doing this correctly and I'm still getting the problem. He sees it but he can't recreate it on his end. He recommended a reinstall and to change admin rights (which were correct to begin with) and no change. This only seems to happen in the last couple of bars of a score. If I create 4-6 extra bars I can start entering chords again. It's a workaround I guess but now I'm having problems with performance articulations not always working or sounding out as they should. For example, I'll enter a strong accent w/ staccato over a few notes and it works but when I try it again on the same part in a different part it' doesn't. I try cutting and pasting the passage that plays correctly and it won't. My setup is way above the recommended system requirements. I love Notion 4 bur getting a little frustrated.

Thanks, Johnny
