Hey everyone,
I downloaded the demo for Notion 3 and I really like it so far but I have a few concerns that could be deal-breakers for me.
#1: This is by far the most important for me - Is there a way to enter notes onto the staff with just the keyboard? In Sibelius or Finale, for instance, you can just type the letter of the note you want. I won't always have a midi controller with me on the go and entering notes with the mouse is excruciatingly slow. Is there possibly an on-screen keyboard like the ipad version has?
#2: Is there a way to switch staves using the keyboard? In Sibelius I think the shortcut might be ctrl+alt + up or down, but regardless it exists.
#3: Is there a "fix" notation button I can press so that when I have, for instance, 3 quarter notes and a half note in a measure with only 4 beats it will automatically resolve it to 3 quarter notes and then two tied quarter notes afterwards? I find myself ending up with a bunch of jumbled measures sometimes when editing and it is a nightmare to get it all resolved.
#4: Is there a way to increase or decrease the value of a selected note (e.g. pressing "+" or something to change a quarter into a half note)?
#5: Is there a keyboard shortcut to enable step-time input? I often switch in-and-out of it to test something out before entering it in and I hate having to move my mouse instead of just tapping a button to re-enable it.
And finally, is there a general keyboard-shortcut editor?
Thanks in advance for answering my concerns, and keep up the work on this great program!

Some Beginner Questions on Keyboard Shortcuts

Re: Some Beginner Questions on Keyboard Shortcuts
I'd like to add one more question to my list:
Is there a way to "load up" an articulation for a particular instrument and have it take effect while just riffing instead of having to actually place notes to hear if something sounds good? Right now even with a particular articulation set on the staff my instruments just play "normale" unless I actually place notes. Thanks!

3. No
4. Yes. Select note, press key "=" and press key Q, S and other shortcuts for notes lenght.
5. I dont know about this feature in notion, but i think no.
there is no shortcut editor.
Yes, you can script your own articulation as you wish. See http://www.notionmusic.com/support/tutorials.html Custom playback

Re: Some Beginner Questions on Keyboard Shortcuts
Thanks so much for your response. It's a bit disappointing that Notion seems to be lacking on keyboard shortcuts, but I suppose that will just mean I'll have to carry around a 25-key midi controller a bit more often
Anyway, I just want to tell the guys/gals working at Notion that I'm really enjoying their product and am awed by the generosity of your demo (all sounds included, wow!). I hope you can implement some of these simple things, really I doubt it would take much time to add a "power user" note edit mode where you can type the letter of the note you want to add and use the numpad for duration (a la sibelius). And really a keyboard shortcut editor should be trivial to add, I expect there's one already in your code and you just need to expose an interface to it. Thanks again for considering my concerns!

Re: Some Beginner Questions on Keyboard Shortcuts
Sorry, one last question before I make my purchase decision
I just noticed that Notion always tries to connect to the internet when I start it. I turned off my wireless adapter and it still ran, but I'm wondering what's the catch here - will it stop running after some days? Let's say I don't have internet for some time, or (god forbid) Notion's servers are down or otherwise inaccessible. Will I be locked out of the program?

After register/activate full version of N3, program stop connecting to internet automaticly. If you dont register full version, and you used demovesrion what was expired, then program lock you using N3. After register, program is unlocked.
