About 32 bits and 64 bits for Windows

Postby elerouxx » Thu Apr 11, 2013 8:03 pm

I installed both versions of Notion 4 because I needed to use some 32-bit plugins.
I see that jbridge works well, in a transparent way (since it 'prepares' the plugins in a way similar to truly converting them to 64).

I am thinking about uninstalling N4 32 bits but I'm a little afraid of losing activation (again!) or messing on the 64-bit installation. So I have 2 questions:

1) Will I harm my installation when uninstalling only the 32 bit version of the program? this in Windows 7 32 bits

2) Will having both versions interfere in any way with Notion 64-bit stability or features, such as REWIRE? (very important for me).

Thanks!

Dear elerouxx,

1) Will I harm my installation when uninstalling only the 32 bit version of the program? this in Windows 7 32 bits

You can run both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the program on the same computer and still only use one authorization code. You will have no trouble with Notion 4 running both versions on the same computer. What you should do in the event you want to use Notion 4 like this is to go to both the Programs Folder and the Programs x86 folder and create icons for shortcuts that you can store on the desktop. Be sure to name them separately so that you know which one you are opening.

Before running your uninstall, always open Notion 4 and go to Help>Software Activation>Return Licenses. This will return your licenses to us. After you re-install, you will be able to retrieve licenses.

2) Will having both versions interfere in any way with Notion 64-bit stability or features, such as REWIRE? (very important for me).

Having both versions will not affect the performance of any functionality. However, with Rewire, you must Enable Rewire in the Preferences menu within the version of the Notion 4 software that you are choosing to work with. In other words, if you open 32-bit and Enable Rewire, then the Rewire device is going to reset the Registry on your computer to use the 32-bit .dll. Then, if you want to switch to 64-bit Notion 4 and use Rewire, you will need to open Notion 4 in 64-bit, go to Preferences>Audio, Disable Rewire and then Enable Rewire. Type your administrator password. Then, close Notion 4 64-bit and re-open it. This will re-write the .dll in your registry and open Rewire in 64-bit along with Notion 4 64-bit. If you go back to Notion 4 32-bit, repeat the process.

I hope this answers your questions. Feel free to repost if you need further assistance.
