Lyrics on a multi-voice staff

Postby Agustin821 » Fri Nov 25, 2011 11:21 am

Greetings all,

I'm trying to do a choral piece that goes up to 6 parts. Everything was going well until I tried to add lyrics to a 2-part staff. Is there a way to do this? IE. add lyrics underneath the bottom voice and add lyrics above the top voice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I need to put lyrics on a divisi staff, too. Is text attached to the top notes the only way? Also, Notion doesn't seem to use voice #2 for lyrics, so I'll have to add text attached to the bottom notes as well, not using Lyrics entry at all. Can anyone suggest a better way?

This may not be much help, but I'd strongly suggest putting each voice part on its own staff. If you are dealing with an SSATBB composition, this means six staves.

Why? You can then easily export rehearsal tracks to your singers so they can practice outside of rehearsal. Or you can import the file into Finale and export as a SmartMusic assessment file, and assign that assessment to singers (for practice, formative assessment, or summative assessment...anything is possible).

You could even do the creative piece and generate parts just for each voice...or each voice and piano...rather than making a score with all voice parts and piano for singers to use.

At the same time, you will solve your problem of how to get separate lyrics for the second voice (however, if you are in second voice mode, I believe you can attach lyrics to that voice...you just have to select the second voice to do it).
