P.S. I read on your website that you are mostly self taught threw books as am I(outside of general music theory classes). Are there any in particular you highly recommend?

If you go to Amazon there is actually a couple really good lists that basically have all the most widely used texts in academia today (and in the past). But some I read over and over...

Harmony:
Persichetti "Harmony"
Straus "Post Tonal Theory"
Morris "Class Notes" (if you're into pitches/atonality and a tad sadistic)

Orchestration:
Sameul Adler "Orchestration"
Kennan (same title)
Berlioz Treatise on Orchestration. (a more historic tome, but still very important)

Counterpoint:
Kennan "Counterpoint"
Piston (same title)
There are many many more. But these are some good ones to add to your library right away. If I had to recommend one over all, I would say the the Persichetti. Although it focuses primarily on harmony, he also gives lots of other tips and tidbits about compostion. He is certainly one of Americas most neglected and under represented composers.
