Hi there
Am I being thick ? I am trying to write out a shuffle feel piece in 12/8 time but it gives me 6 quarter notes to the bar - surely it should be 4 quarter notes that you can then group in triplets

?????
So,
12/8 means having 12 eight notes per bar. (it is not a 4/4 divided in 4 triplet of eight)
Usually is about 4 pulsations in a bar figuring 4 group of 3 eight. (not a triplet of eight)
You may also divided those 12 eight in 6 group of 2 eight notes or 6 quarter note. (no triplet)
Or you can write 4 dotted quarter note (1 eight + 1 eight + 1 eight)
Like this its still about 4 beat per bar...

Hope to help ???
