Unexpected MuseScore key change

Unexpected MuseScore key change

Postby LGMinton » Wed Feb 13, 2013 11:45 am

I completed a choral arrangement in Ab major. When I tried to transfer it to MuseScore on my iMac, it appeared in A major. The key signature remained 4 flats, but all notes in the signature (Bb, Eb, Ab, Db) appear and play back as naturals.
What did I (or it) do wrong?
I can change all the affected notes manually, but that will be a very large chore.

I'm sorry I don't have an answer to the cause of the problem, but a possible solution might be to change the key signature in the MuseScore file to be A Major, and then transpose the whole file down a half-step to Ab, rather than having to change every note manually.

LGMInton,

I've been doing some work in Notion for iPad, and exporting MusicXML files to Finale. I haven't seen any problems with key signatures, although beaming is messed up along with a loss of annotation markings such as piano rolls.

Could you send me a "private message" with your e-mail? If so, I'll send you an e-mail. Then I'd ask that you send me your score (in MusicXML) and let me verify that the problem is with Notion and not with MuseScore. It is just as possible that MuseScore is messing up the translation.

Another thing that I do is to use the app called SeeScore to open a MusicXML file. If SeeScore displays music I've generated incorrectly, I know the problem is on the "generator's" side. If the problem doesn't exist, it is on the "interpreter's" side.

Thanks for your responses. I finished the arrangement thanks to a friend who put my XML file thru Finale. It was almost certainly due to my fumbling with these programs. I'm working on another and haven't had this problem (maybe because it's in C major?)
