Is there a way to load up the rules without Notion having the VST referenced and enabled?

You can use the external midi-channels, but you have to write your own rules for it (or convert the ones supplied to use external midi), look this way for hints:

To me it seems it's pretty much unsupported right now, because it's not in a user friendly state to customize the rules, and you can make things go wrong, but it is doable. I presently load EWQLSO with EWQL pianos and choirs in Cantabile lite and use 4 virtual midi cables to drive them with custom rules. I have on each staff a master KS patch for the solo and the ensemble instruments, and a DXF patch for (de)crescendos. I've also added some custom expressions to N3 like divi for divisi, unis. for unisono, and DXF, repetition to turn repetition on in play and end repetition to turn it off. It works very well, and I hope they will make this possible in a user-friendly way. If I could remember how to program in c++ or any other language I'd make a tool myself to write the rules files in an easy point and click way, but I don't.:)
