On a whole note, I'd like to have 2 chords, one for each half note. How can I do it? For Notion for iPad the forum answer was to create a new layer. I didn't see how to do that on Notion3 (Mac).

In NOTION 3 and NOTION 4, you can have up to four voices, and each voice can be playing a chord, which is one way to do it . . .

If these need to be guitar chords, then you can do it with two guitar staves, although you can do it with just one guitar staff, except that the guitar tab numbers are superimposed, so for guitar it works better to have two staves . . .

[NOTE: The voices are selected on the floating tool palette in the section where the notes are located, and you can see the colors for the voices via the "Show" menu item on the "View" Menu, which has a fly-out that enables you to select "Show Voice Colors" . . . ]

[NOTE: Multiple voices for Piano works nicely and is not overly busy, depending on what you consider to be "busy", but for Guitar it is a bit too busy to have multiple voices, plus there are finite limits on what can be played by one person at one time on guitar with respect to showing the finger and fret positions clearly, but it works to stack voices for guitar with respect to playback, so it depends on whether you are focused on having NOTION 3 play the music notation or are interested more in creating sheet music. There also are limits on what one person can play on piano at one time, but the number of notes is greater for piano (10 notes, more or less, for piano versus 6 for guitar, although on piano you can play more than one note with each finger if you have long fingers and do a bit of experimenting and practicing) . . . ]

Lots of FUN! :)

P. S. If this is for guitar and for example you want to drone the low-pitch "E" string as a whole note while also playing two half-note chords on the higher-pitch strings, then this is something you can do on a single guitar staff, since it can be played by one guitar player without needing to do overdubbing, really . . .

[NOTE: You need to use two voices to do this, where the one voice is the droned whole-note and the second voice plays the chords, as shown in the following screen capture. Using two voices lets the notes for each voice have different durations, which is the key to doing this and having the guitar tab numbers be clearly visible and easy to read . . . ]

Thanks for the detailed reply. I don't think that solves my problem. I'm using this in a Jazz fake book context, on an original. Here's an example using a different song. How do you put the 2 chords on the whole note?

Add your notes using voice 1. Switch to voice 2. Add rests with voice 2 active. The rests will allow you to put chords above them. Left click and drag to select the measure. Right click and select Rests/Hide Rests.
(I'm using Notion 4).
