Hi,
I've bought Dimension strings from VSL. It's great. I was wondering if anyone has tips how to get this working with Notion?
Best regards,
Frieda

Until someone creates custom rules for DS, your best bet is to use hidden staffs to send keyswitches and CCs.

Hi Bill(thought that was your name),
Thanks for your quick reply!
I am a bit afraid to use rule files. I am wondering if the rule files from Notion itself with the same plugin id will be overwritten by my rule file and then no longer can be used both. I noticed this when I was using the same plugin id for different libraries. For instance Notion's EWQL did not work then properly anymore.
Best regards
Frieda

Hi,
I now am using the Notion VSL Chamber strings patches as model for the dimension strings. I load the Dimension patches in the cells and and save it under another name. This I have to do for all players. The idea of hiding stave what Bill suggested is also a good idea.
I was wondering if Notion will develop something for Dimension strings in future. That will be nice.
Best regards,
Frieda

Yes, that another way to handle it. I do that with the Solo Strings. The only issue is that DS doesn't have all of the articulations.

Hi all,
If you are wanting to use Dimension Strings, it will work to set up a user preset with the sounds loaded. If you want to skip writing new rules, you can always replace the patches for the other string presets with the samples from the Dimension Strings. Then, if you load your user presets, Notion will look at the same preset rules and play your new patches.
In response, Frieda, if you are using a score with a new set of rules for the same plugin id, just setup a new Rules folder in the same folder that you are saving your score. You can use multiple sets of rules in one folder, or you can use multiple sets of Rules folders for different scores. In the case of custom rules, they never conflict with the built in rules if you are using Custom VST's. Only Notion Preset VST's look at our built in rules.

Could you expand on this? How, exactly, does one do this?

Go through every patch that is loaded and replace it with an applicable patch from the list of Patches that Vienna Provides from the Dimension strings set. For example, match and replace the Staccatos from Special Edition with the Staccatos from the Dimension Strings patches.
There are three banks to work from on the right of the Vienna Instruments window. If you go to the patches folder, you will see the individual patch files. Drag them into the applicable boxed in the Matrix.
It is not a fun task, but it will get you working…

Thanks. Are there any plans for developing DS presets?
