Hi,

I have imported a midifile with sixteenth notevalues. In the sequencerstaff it shows good. But when I convert it to notation it shows quarternotes instead of sixteenth notevalues.





What am I doing wrong?

I am not sure what you are doing wrong here. I just tried it to see how it works by recording a MIDI file into logic. I quantized the notes to 16ths, exported the MIDI File and imported it into Notion. Here are my results.





I have one suggestion regarding a possible solution. Check the durations of your notes. In Logic, I used the "Transform" function to set all Notion Durations as 16ths. I do not know what program you are exporting from, but this imported correctly for me.

Hi admin,

First I downloaded a midifile from the internet. It gave the above problem. So I made a testfile in Logic pro, Quantisized the notelength in the pianorolleditor with the knob Q. This file I import in Notion. Unfortuantely it gave the same problem.
I will try with the transform function but what do I have to fill in in the transform fuction under note length, how many tics is a sixteenth note?

Here is the midifile I've downloaded from internet. But the testfile I've made in Logic also gave quarter notes instead of 16th notes. Logic seems to convert the midifile OK. There must be some setting in Notion that give me this conversion because you don't have the problem with it.

This is what I got when I converted the MIDI file to Notation after importing to Notion and converting to Notation.

What steps are you using to get the strange output of your conversion?

It's strange, it suddenly converted well. I did change something with the record settings, duration and velocity and suddenly it seems to work. But I donot know that's the cause. I've tried to replicate the conversion problem but without success. I have no clue what it is.

What I do:
File, Import
Cmd_A
Tools, Convert to notation

This is a bit of a guess, and I have not tried it with an experiment, but if you have the audio resolution for Logic Pro 9 set to 96-kHz or some value higher than standard CD resolution and are using 24-bits rather than 16-bits, as well as a different tempo or perhaps time signature, this could map to MIDI notes being converted differently from what you expect . . .

NOTION 4 generates audio at standard CD quality, which is 44.1-kHz (44100-Hz) at 16-bits, and this is the way you should have the audio resolution for Logic Pro 9 configured, and for reference increasing the bit-depth does not make the audio sound better. Instead, it would introduce hiss and noise, since there are only 16-bits of data, so expanding it to 24-bits requires padding it with hiss and noise, or something like that, hence you get the best sound when you use standard CD quality (44.1-kHz at 16-bits) . . .

Just a few thoughts . . .
