tweaking dynamics

I have recorded a piano part and say one note is too quiet. I go to 'tweak dynamics' and there's that number thing where it says 'add +1 to raise one dynamic, etc'. Pretty cryptic, and it makes no difference. What does the program means by 'a dynamic' ? How many there are of them, 10, one hundred? and why I don't hear any difference?

Hi composerwithnotion3,
A dynamic refers to a written dynamic, not a recorded key velocity. If you enter, say, a mf in the part, then highlight that measure (or just that dynamic) you can tweak it louder or softer with the menu command. Your mf will become a f if you add 1 to it. It will become a mp if you tweak it by minus 1. You can also tweak in increments smaller than 1. It's all described in the User Guide.
If you want to tweak recorded key velocities, press Tab to show the duration bars. Then select the note heads of the music you want to tweak and press the up arrow to increase key velocity or down arrow to decrease. I believe holding down the Shift key while pressing an arrow key will change the velocity in increments of 10 (I'm away from my computer right now). Again, look it up in the manual. There's also a video on Notion's web site that shows you all the details.
Best wishes,
Thorrild

Thanks Thorrild, for the very useful explanations. The problem with the manual is that the index is badly arranged, i.e. when I look into the manual and I type 'dynamics' all I get is 3 small paragraphs in chapter 10.12 that don't explain much at all. Weird.
So yes it might be in the manual, but where?

I have had similar problems before. I don't know how other people learn how to use a program, I just try to find out the stuff I want to do instead of learning everything from first page to last, but maybe that's not the approach to use. Cheers

Finding things in the manual is an ordeal, and I often just start paging through it to find things.

wcreed51, exactly. I don't know why, but for me it's always been like that, with ALL programs. I think I have tried them all, Logic, Cubase, Sonar, etc, in 11 years of computer use I have found all their manuals a complete mess. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack

Most PDF documentation has the TOC setup as bookmarks in the left hand navigation pane. That would be a big help too.
