where's the N3 video tutorials on youtube? don't tell me you deleted them 'cause that would suck. It's like 'ok the hell with who bought the old version, goodbye'

They're all still on Youtube. Just search on Notion 3.

The new videos cover a lot of the same stuff. Notion 4 isn't that different.

My mistake, apologies to Notion Music. I found the old videos before I saw the response above and realized the videos for N3 were on a different Youtube Channel.

Sorry, I've been frustrated 'cause I see some composers doing wonders with Notion and I still don't even know how to set the split point to record bass and treble parts separatedly. When it comes to computers, I still suck. I have always liked to study music theory but when it comes to making music with computers, I don't feel good

QUESTION: Which operating system platform and version are you using (Windows or Mac), and is your computer new and powerful or older and perhaps not so powerful (processor[s] or core[s], speed, memory, hard drive, and so forth)?

[NOTE: For example, I do everything on a 2.8-GHz 8-core Mac Pro (early-2008) with 20GB of memory and high-capacity Seagate 7,200 RPM internal hard drives. I am running the current version of Mac OS X, which is Mac OS X 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion), and I use Logic Pro 9 (Apple) and Digital Performer 8 (MOTU) as my DAW applications. I also use Reason 6.5 (Propellerhead Software), but I am going to upgrade to Reason 7, which was just released. I have a MOTU 828mk3 Hybrid external digital audio interface that I use to connect microphones and to run electric guitar, electric bass, and keyboard synthesizers "direct", where I record these real instruments and singing in the DAW application, but I use NOTION 4 running in 64-bit mode for doing orchestration with music notation and virtual instruments, and I record the NOTION 4 generated audio as "soundbites" in the DAW application via a ReWire 2 session, which works very nicely on the Mac. And I can control Reason 6.5 from NOTION 4 via NOTION 4 External MIDI staves, so that the music notation comes from NOTION 4 and is sent to Reason 6.5, where it tells Reason 6.5 how to control and to play various Reason 6.5 instruments. It takes a while to discover how to do all this stuff, but it makes sense with a bit of reading, studying, and experimenting, and you can do a lot with it, which makes it worth the effort . . . ]

More specifically, (a) what is a "split point"? and (b) were you referring to recording real instruments via a microphone or to doing something with music notation and virtual instruments?

Regardless of the operating system platform (Windows or Mac), someone will know about the various software and hardware you are using and should be able to provide some advice on how to get everything working . . .

Hi Surfwhammy, thank you. Ok I think I gave the wrong idea as I am not at a newbie or one of these people who can't setup a soundcard to work with their DAW. I am no nerd but know my way around a computer, i.e. can change most of the hardware etc

so no, no problem with the processing power or such stuff, there's plenty there....I have a 2 ghz dual core and use XP. Certainly quite old by now but I really don't need more than that and it's plenty powerful for Notion 3.

The split point is found in the Record function in Notion. It drove me crazy as I tried to record bass and treble piano parts separately and the result would always be a mess of overlapping parts, and I found nothing about it in the manual except in the index
