Control over stem direction

Postby matt_2013 » Sat Mar 23, 2013 2:18 am

Hi,

I am using Notion mainly with works for classical guitar for which it is very common to have multiple voices in a single staff. Notion does offer an option of choosing the stem direction for a note. But this only seems to work with a single voice. If there are multiple voices than Notion directs all stems upwards apart from the voice with the highest voice index for which it makes the stems point downwards such as here:

I would like to make the stems of the second voice point downwards as well:

I couldn't find a way of doing that. Is it possible with the current code or does this require an enhancement?

Thanks,
Matthias

right click on the note(s) you want to change > notes > stem up or stem down.

Thanks! I tried that but for the 4 notes of the second voice in my example that doesn't work. I am using Notion on a Mac. I tried clicking on a single note of that block, I tried highlighting all four notes, no luck. It seems that the direction chosen from the drop-down menu has no effect on the second voice.

Oddly enough it does work for the stems of the first and third voice.

That is weird. I would submit a bug report or email Notion support to see if there is a solution.

I'm on a Mac as well and can confirm what Matthias is finding - you can change the stem direction of voices 1 & 3, but not 2.

I have sent a request to Notion support. I will let you know what they say.

Hi Matt,

This is a known issue when dealing with more than two voices. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I ran into the same problem writing for piano.

There's an additional problem: I cannot set a TIE between notes in the 3rd or 4th voice.

I hope they fix this soon.
