Wish: Excel-like split screen views

Postby iamnemo » Mon Feb 11, 2013 12:54 am

Would be nice to be able to split the score screen horizontally and/or vertically and be able to scroll up/down and left/right independently in each half/quadrant à la Excel.

Splitting horizontally would let us compare instruments/groups and vertically would permit look/copy/paste across 2 different time-separated parts of the score.

What do you think users/developers?

Dear iamnemo,

Thanks for the ideas and feature requests. Keep them coming.

This is an option that has been requested and evaluated in the past and has a live development ticket. As you are probably aware, we are constantly working to improve the functionality of Notion and the only limitation that we have is time. Not every feature that is requested can make it in, but we do try to listen to our customers for great new ideas.

Might I suggest a work around that would make it possible to accomplish this task?

1. Open a score that you want to work with.
2. Perform a Save As... with a different name
3. Then, open the original
4. In the Original you can change the view of the score without effecting the view of the Save As...file. You can manipulate through the views of old score and work in the updated version of the score.
5. When you Save the new editing that you have done, you can update the old "viewfinder" score by over-writing the saved file with a Save As... using the same name. This will keep both scores updated, but be careful not to over-write the wrong file.

It's worth a try. See if it is something that proves to be useful.

Regards,

Thank you for your very detailed reply. It's actually exactly what I'm doing now as a work-around but, as you note, it's a bit risky and tedious. Just hoping you will find the resources to implement it one day... Thanks again!
