Has anyone had much experience, good or bad, with notation scanning software and Notion? I'm looking for a program that can scan a PDF and convert it to Notion notation.

If the PDF has been exported from a score editing software PDFtoMusic Pro will read it and export in MusicXML which can then be imported into Notion.

Gary thanks for the response. I was thinking of scans of printed scores.

SmartScore (http://www.musitek.com/) and PhotoScore (http://www.neuratron.com/photoscore.htm) are the two that come to mind.

I think the results are less then you'd desire. Not sure if they have demos, but if so, I'd try before buying.

Ah, right. In that case you could check out the following:

SmartScore
PhotoScore
Audiveris

The last one is open source and free!

I don't have any experience of these myself although I might try them as there are some scores I'd quite like to get into Notion to study.

Audiveris looks great, but only available for windows and linux. I'll cross my fingers for a mac version! I'll check out the others. Thanks!

Yes, I'll probably give that one a try soon.

Sorry, I didn't know you were on a Mac.
