QUESTIONS
Can you provide more details on your Mac (model or generation); amount of memory; and version of Mac OS X?
Are you running NOTION 4 in 32-bit mode or 64-bit mode?
PRIMARY THOUGHTS (RELEVANT)
Before doing anything, I would do a warm boot, especially if you installed a lot of new software, sampled sound libraries, and so forth . . .
And I would verify the hard drive and repair permissions, which as you know is done with the Disk Utility application, where first I would verify the hard drive and then I would repair permissions . . .
You might need to reinstall NOTION 4 . . .
SECONDARY THOUGHTS ON IOS AND MAC OS X INTERNALS (OPTIONAL)
For reference, I am running Mac OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion) on a 2.8-GHz 8-core Mac Pro (20GB memory), and everything is working nicely, except that NOTION 4 does not cause FabFilter Software Instruments VST effects plug-ins to save its session settings, which could be a problem with the FabFilte Software Instruments VST effects plug-ins, because IK Multimedia VST effects plug-ins correctly save their session settings, where to be clear this is done in 64-bit mode, and the FabFilter Software Instruments and IK Multimedia VST effects plug-ins are 64-bit, which unfortunately at present is not the case with IK Multimedia VSTi virtual instruments . . .
Generally, it tends to be best to keep current with the version of Mac OS X, which is what I do here in the sound isolation studio . . .
And as you probably know, Apple has been adding stuff from iOS to Mac OS X, which in some respects is annoying, but there is nothing I can do about it . . .
For example, starting with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), Apple switched to doing scrolling the way it is done in iOS, where the strategy is based on doing it via touch with a finger rather than with a mouse, which resulted in the tiny triangle "single-step" parts of the scroll bar being dropped (a.k.a., "retired"), and the consequence initially for me was that not being able to move the mouse pointer to the tiny triangles and then to click to "single-step" scroll without needing to move the mouse caused my shoulder to have a bit of temporary traumatic injury from the increased longer range forward and backward mouse motions, and this took about two weeks to get resolve, since it was similar to having what colloquially is called "tennis elbow" and was very painful to the point of interfering with my ability to sleep, where eventually I decided to use the "scroll pea" on an Apple Mighty Mouse for single-step scrolling, except that the "scroll pea" has to be cleaned frequently, which also is annoying, but I deal with it . . .
The reason I mention the iOS and Mac OS X feature and functionality "merging" aspect is that this has consequences on the way applications work with respect to current and immediately previous versions of Mac OS X, and this can introduce what one might call "odd" behaviors when new applications coded to current Mac OS X standards and rules are run in previous versions of Mac OS X, which is backward compatibility type of thing and can result in the aforementioned "odd" behaviors, where NOTION 4 on the Mac most likely was developed, built, and packaged using the current version of Xcode for Mac OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion), and if so, then the various foundation classes and so forth would have new stuff as well as some of the old stuff being "retired", which maps to its being replaced with new stuff, which can introduce some "odd" behaviors for a variety of reasons . . .
This is what comes to mind at the moment . . .
Lots of FUN!

Re: Play not showing...
In the long EW FAQ thread there's an explanation of as to how to fix the find sample issue. It's a play issue really, not a Notion issue.
What is it that's missing from the Mixer? To me it looks just the way it should.

Re: Play not showing...
OK, so if you have Play open, and then open the mixer, Play disappears?
Not happening on the PC side...
