You can try either Tremolo. Select the notes or measures you want to effect and place Tremolo markings on them by pressing the "/" key 3 times.

Or,

Type "apostraphe" and then type "roll". "roll all" will display in your cursor and you can place it where you want.

I hope this helps.

Are you using the Vienna Special Edition Preset libraries that are built into Notion or are you loading your own sound sets from the Custom VST instruments?

The old EastWest Play presets should work, but I can do some testing on that.

I know that the old and new Vienna Symphonic Library Special Edition presets work for Timpani Rolls. The old ones are notated in the score setup window as VSL SE (Notion 3) and the new ones are dedicated to the new VSL Special Edition presets libraries 1-4. They are notated as VSL Special Edition in the score setup window.

These are setup to work with Timpani Rolls. What version of Notion are you using?

No, the timpani rolls never worked with EWQL for whatever reason, even when using Notion's presets....I too would appreciate if you could look into this!

So based on what I have found, the problem is that EastWest has loaded their rolls into the keyboard at the C, two Octaves above Middle C. There are almost two octaves of rolls in the sample set, but the only way that I can figure out how to get them to play is to write them in that Octave. That is possibly some new EastWest functionality that has been changed or added in later Play updates and which is different than the way the Presets were set up in Notion, although I am not certain about that.

There is a workaround that Notion will provide, and it is a little annoying, but I can at least set you up to get them playing back until we determine how to resolve the matter for future playback issues.

The Timpani staff functions as it should by opening in the Bass Clef. Whenever you use rolls, I would suggest writing in a 15va (2 Octaves up). Once you have placed these into the score, you can preserve Print Integrity by hiding the 15va.

To do this:

1. Click select the 15va that you have added to the score.
2. Right Click and go to Attachments
3. Select Hide

If you handle this in this manner, you can write for the instrument correctly, and still get playback. I am sorry for the horrible nature of this work-around. We will be getting some work done on the EastWest Custom Presets, but it seems that EastWest has changed some of their setup which is not working with these libraries properly anymore.

I know that I have presented a temporary solution for you today, and I will do my best to get the matter worked out. Once the issues have been resolved, you will want to update your scores by removing the 15va's. The way you would go about handling that is to:

1. Go to the View dropdown menu
2. Select the Show Hidden Items option
3. Select and delete the 15ma's

I hope this helps,
