transposing a MIDI file after import

Postby composerwithnotion3 » Thu Aug 16, 2012 11:12 am

I have an orchestral piece as a midi file, the midi has been made in the wrong key although all the music is correct ( Emin instead of F# min).

I start by selecting a new project, then import the midi, then enter the new key signature ( A) but the music does not automatically transpose to new key, Fmin, how do I do that so as to get rid of most of the accidentals ? thanks

Here is the best way to handle your transposition:

1. After the MIDI import is complete, select the entire score by pressing either "Command + A" or "CTRL + A".
2. Right-Click on the selected area and go to: Tools>Convert to Notation
3. Then Right-Click again and go to Tools>Transpose
4. In the dialogue box that appears, select the interval, the direction, and the octave you want to effect the notation to with the transposition.
5. After the Transposition is complete, then set the new Key Signature by pressing "Shift + K".

If you complete the transposition in this order, you will preserve the accidentals and they will reset to the new key. If you try to set the new key first, the accidentals will not be preserved.
