Sibelius news

Has anyone been following the announcement that Avid is shutting down the office that writes and maintains Sibelius? From what I've read, it sounds like Avid is trying to move Sibelius to a production software and not strictly notation (but I could be completely wrong about that).

Regardless, this seems like an opportune time for Notion to pick off market share since the announcement has led to a huge, negative response from Sibelius users.

Thoughts anyone?

They are moving it to Asia - not getting rid of it.

I know they're keeping it, but the closure of that particular office has sent user community into frenzy.

This quote from an Avid representative has caused quite a stir with the Sibelius community:

Our plan is to integrate Sibelius development more closely with the rest of Avid's audio development teams in California, and I’m confident we can leverage our innovative development teams and continue to raise the bar in the future.

Just read the comments here:

Clearly, there is an opportunity for Notion (depending on what the next Notion release contains).

Both those programs (fin/sib) are at their heart, NOTATION software for engraving PRINTED music. Playback is a secondary thing. The notation aspect of Notion would have be exponentially more robust in order to compete with Sibelius or Finale (sucky as Finale is). I'm really hoping this is case in N4 when it is released. If so, Notion will dominate quickly.

But boy are those Sibelius users Pissed! haha. Comments are scathing (and that's the nice ones)
