help me organize

Postby jeannoir » Mon Feb 13, 2012 4:45 pm

I'm in my first year at CAL Arts and have been losing my mind trying to keep track of projects. I'm not the most tech savvy so I need something to do it for me. WHAT DOES EVERYBODY USE? Just signed up with http://www.gobbler.com after a quick search suggest it's compatible with notion.

I think that most folks use folders, which is an easy way to organize projects . . .

This is the way I do it, and I create a folder for each song . . .

Since there is a practical limit of 20 to 25 "heavy" VSTi virtual instruments per NOTION 3 score, I create a subfolder for the NOTION 3 scores for a song, and I differentiate the NOTION 3 scores by appending a numerical suffix to the file name . . .

And I use the same organization for the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) application projects for songs, since I use NOTION 3 for music notation and VSTi virtual instruments but record the NOTION 3 generated audio as "soundbites" in the DAW application via ReWire, where the DAW application is the ReWire host controller and NOTION 3 is the ReWire slave . . .

Lots of FUN! :D

P. S. I do backups with a combination of internal hard drives and LaCie external hard drives, which works nicely and avoids a lot of broadband ISP activity, which is important because the DAW application audio files for a song typically are in the range of 5GB (total per song) . . .
