Indication of the backup file.

Postby Francois2010 » Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:02 pm

Currently, there is a small sign (asterisk) to the right of the title of the piece of music to indicate that the file is not saved. The asterisk disappears when the file is saved. (image 1) I think we should have a picture or a word much more evident, indicating that the file is saved or not, maybe in the gray area of the file still free in N3. (image 2)

The asterisk is pretty standard, and used by many programs...

Yes I know. In the case of N3 the asterisk is really tiny. I prefer a more visible icon like this that we see often in word processors.

You're referring to two different features. The icon you refer to will save the file when clicked in programs such as Word, etc; the asterisk just tells you that the current version of the file has not been saved. A quick way to save (on windows) is control + s.

Hi pcartwright,
Yes indeed it is different. I know the function Ctrl + s. I use it often. I would also like an icon to save the music. Another music publisher offers this. See the fifth icon.

I suppose one click away from saving is better than two (that being file > save); on the whole, I prefer programs that don't waste/clutter graphical space with buttons that are easily accessed in other ways (i.e. key shortcuts and/or menu options). I guess our opinions cancel each other out.

The software I'm talking about here are several smaller icons which allow fewer clicks to reach the desired symbol and it is not bulky. This is another concept.

Add it as a feature request if you want, but there really isn't much to be gained by including these buttons. I don't care one way or the other so long as there is a way to remove them if we don't want them.

Hi pcartwright,

You will understand what I mean if you see the software I'm talking about. It is possible to do the things you mention: add and remove pallets at will. And even the possibility of building a personal palette icon by icon.

I use very often the save icon when I work quickly.

Regarding the main subject here, I showed a very large area where there is nothing in the N3 window , in my first post.
