Impossible to close completely Notion3

Postby Zblogny » Thu Oct 13, 2011 12:59 pm

Hello,

Weird issue with Notion3 on my laptop (Win Vista pro):
When I close Notion3 it does not release audio and MIDI devices.
If I want to open Reaper or Cubase they no longer find these devices.
And if then I try to reopen Notion3, it does no longer opens.
With Process explorer I can see Notion3 still staying there after I quit.
I try to kill process with Process Explorer, but it's impossible, it remains stuck there, so the only way out is exit Windows and reboot.

Thanks for your help

Hello,

This is Brian from NOTION Music. Your problem sounds like an issue with your ASIO driver. Go to File>Preferences and click on the "Audio" tab. Change your driver from ASIO to Direct Sound or Windows Default and see if it resolves the issue. If it does, you may want to go to the manufacturer of your Sound Card's web site and download the latest driver. You could also use a free program called ASIO4All. Let me know if this helps.

I am experiencing the same problem with my set up as well. I have the Roland Quad-Capture soundcard. Brian was correct in assuming the ASIO driver. I contacted Roland tech support and of course they told me it was an issue with the software. So I'm going in circles.

Could someone explain to me what the ASIO4all is. Does it repalce the existing driver?

thanks,
Charlie

Thanks Brian, that was it !
Asio4All fixed the problem (as often...).

Problem fixed with Asio4All (see above my answer to Brian).
Interesting observation : my souncard is also a Roland (Cakewalk UA4FX for me).

Yes, Asio4all replaces the existing driver, and it often solves this kind of problem.

One last question please, would I delete the roland driver first and then install the asio4all driver?

thanks,

No, you can keep it.
Just select Asio4all when setting audio driver in Notion preferences.
So you keep the ability to choose the Roland driver for other applications.

NB. If you have an onboard sound card, disable it so that Asio4all does not find it..
