Small Gray dot

What is the small gray dot I sometimes see at the cursor? Can't find any reference to it in the manual.

Hi. It sounds like it is the staccato mark. You get this by pressing No 1 on the computer keyboard. Try pressing 1 again and you will get the marcato mark. Press escape to get the normal cursor.

... or did you mean this? (see attached screenshot)

I don't know what it is either, but I've often wondered...

So why does it only appear some of the time? And why does it sometimes appear on one staff, and sometimes on all staffs? :?

It depends by where, when and how many times you click with the mouse.
