Fingered tremolos

Postby achambily » Sat Sep 03, 2011 4:55 am

Do not work for me : if I do this, the first note is played like in a tremolando and the second is just played on the last note of the shake...

You need to tell us which instrument(s) you are having problems with.

Best wishes,

Score effects that control articulation will generally work in Notion libs*, the program/programmers know what is in the sound lib and how to switch them. These are different and not consistent in other libs. It is therefore difficult to map and keep up with hundreds of different vendor libraries, I expect.

To get a trill for example, I sometimes look up the keyswitch in GPO sample interface and include the note, or switch to a secondary part; this gets the right sound, but is a lot of setup and is a challenge in the score. A strategy I use is more often is to switch instruments inline from the GPO legato flute to the Notion flute right before the trill, and switch back again afterward, and marking the instr 'hidden.'

*Not always though. Some marks which ought to work (on N3 instruments--or at least approximate the effect--don't. An example was something I was working on today is the case you describe, where I wanted fingered tremelo on clarinet, and it didn't create the effect, and I had to notate it. I just tried this on other parts, and found the following: triple-line trill produced single note on 4 of 5 wind instruments, but double-line trill, sounded in all 5 (more staccato-like). On oboe, where both sounded, I got faster sound on 2 than on 3. Maybe someone else might try this simple test?

Using only notion 3 instruments, violin solo, I can't get any fingered tremolo with 3 beams (only the first note plays, without subdivision, as if it as a long note). With double and single beams, the first note plays as divided by the right tempo (either eights for single beam, sixteenths for double) and the second note plays only once at the end.

Btw, in the great Awakening sample by Astinov, the fingered tremolos also don't play correctly.
