Re: Graphic pad

One of my friends is a graphic designer, and he uses a graphic pad with his Mac Pro and considers it mandatory, but I tried one for a while and found it very difficult to use compared to a mouse, so I think it depends on the application and the context . . .
Apple is releasing Mac OS X Lion next month (July 2011), and it supports Multi-Touch gestures, so I am pondering the idea of getting an Apple Magic Trackpad to do a bit of experimenting . . .

At some point in the future, I think that there will be a way for an iPad to interface via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth with a Mac computer for purposes of being an input device and touchscreen--which is intriguing--but I have no idea when this will happen . . .
With Notion 3, there are no capabilities and features that make doing anything with a trackpad particularly compelling, but this can change in a future version, although whether it will change is yet to be determined in any way of which I am aware . . .
If you look at the notes for a single voice on a staff, the notes are like points on a curve or trajectory, and as such I think it makes a bit of sense for example to be able to trace a melody at least to the level of the notes being constrained to a particular mode or scale (for example, a harmonic minor scale or a mode like Phrygian) and duration (for example, all quarter notes or whatever value makes the most sense) . . .
There are lot of things that can be done easily and quickly in a music notation and composition program with finger gestures and motions, but doing them requires the application to do a lot more behind-the-scenes work, which in turn maps to increased software engineering work . . .
For those folk who do not play keyboards fluently, inputting notes one at a time via mouse clicks is a bit primitive, so I look forward to a future version of NOTION having more advanced abilities with respect to working with notes and phrases based on some combination of being able to select typically standard types of scales and phrases for input as a set rather than working with individual notes, which from a software engineering perspective mostly is a matter of defining everything in a way that make it easys to find standard phrases and scales for selection . . .
Lots of FUN!
