Dear All

I've been trying to export midi from my EWQLSO Notion template to work with in Logic but what I end up with is 4 sections of midi data: woodwinds, brass percussion and strings. Is there anyway to export the track information separately and also to maintain the keyswitching information required by EWQLSO?

Hi Brian,

I think this issue is known. I have this workaround: 1. Export to XML 2. Import with Finale Printmusic (low cost version of Finale) 3. Export to midi. Maybe you have another program capable to import MusicXML-files and to export midi.

I have exactly the same problem with exporting to Reaper... (and I don't have Finale !)
(I also use EWQL)
I would be great if we could have the articulations info exported... (even just the names would help...)

I did a quick test in Notion 3 and Reason 5 (Propellerhead Software), where I created a new instrument and copied the notes from an existing instrument to the newly created instrument, followed by transposing the newly copied notes downward by a minor third . . .

Then I selected only the notes for the newly created instrument and exported them as a MIDI file ("*.mid"), followed by closing Notion 3 and then opening Reason 5, where I imported the MIDI file, and only the MIDI information for the newly created instrument there (as contrasted to MIDI information for all the instruments) . . .

[NOTE: On the Mac, I lasso the two measures for a specific instrument; use the Shift key and mouse click to ensure that the entire first measure is selected; and then scroll to the end of the song, where I use the Shift key and mouse click to select the measures for the specific instrument to the end of the song. There might be another way to do this, but this way works for me. Once the measures for a specific instrument are selected, I click on the "File" menu and select the "Export MIDI . . . " menu item for doing the MIDI export . . . ]

This is the musical piece that I used for the experiment, and it is shown with the "Wurlitzer" instrument selected . . .

I am doing this on the Mac, and based on my testing the key is to select only measures for the specific instrument or instruments for which you want to export MIDI information . . .

On the other hand, one might suppose that if you do not select anything, then everything is exported . . .

I have no idea . . .

This is the Reason 5 audio for the experiment, and it was converted to MP3 via iTunes, which is fabulous . . .

[NOTE: This is done with two instruments exported separately in MIDI format from Notion 3 and then imported separately into Reason 5 where the MIDI notes and so forth are copied and pasted for use in playing five synthesizers . . . ]
