How much duplication is enough?

Postby thorrild » Tue Aug 17, 2010 2:05 pm

The Duplicate command in Notion is often extremely handy, I think. However, I wonder if it can't be made even handier. It seems to me that items such as Tempo Marks and double barlines (to the left of the duplicated measure/s) should be left un-duplicated. Are there other elements that should be excluded from duplication?

Best wishes,

I'm going to get on my soap box for a moment for this one. I've submitted a few feature requests basically asking for a "copy/paste special" function. I think the scenario outlined by thorrid would be a case where a "paste special" function would be very handy.

If a user wanted to copy and paste music but without tempo markings or special barlines, then one should be able to copy the music needed, click "paste special" and be able to choose which attributes are included or not included with the paste (in this case, the user would uncheck or deselect barlines and tempo markings).

In short, yes, a beefed up duplication function would be great, and I personally think an option to choose which items get copied/pasted, from which voices to copy, and to which voices to paste would be a great help.
