Is there any hope in the *very* near future for an alto flute, which is extremely important to Broadyway pit orchestras?

I agree. The lack of an Alto Flute seems puzzling, especially when there is something as esoteric as a Contrabass Saxophone(Tubax) available.

I'll speak with Eric about this next week and see what the plans are. I know that it's not "on deck" at the moment though.....then again...now you can use other libraries seamlessly with Notion so I'm sure you can find a sample set to use

This is true. However, *many* third party sample sets are just that: a *set*. So (a) it would seem a bit pricey to have to buy, for example, GPO just to get a an alto flute, and (b) I sincerely hope that "now you can get it elsewhere" will not be the fall-back position on developing new sounds for N3.
