reading further, I seem to understand that it is possible, using the instrument based rules. Then id apply the correct rules to the correct staves in my orchestral template.
But I sure would love it if someone else built those rules , and I could buy it from them :D
Someone from Notion perhaps :)
:P

feeling a little abandoned here... ?
would love to get advice on the process, just so I know what is possible before I start spending time on rules.
Thanks

I have EWQLSO and am planning on building custom rules based on my own preferences, habits, etc. I'd be happy to share those rules, but EWQLSO rules are a bit down the list for libraries I want to write rules for. Quite simply, EWQLSO will take a lot more time than other libraries.

But, so you know, I have no fixed time frame to write these rules.

just noticed there's an EWQLSO custom rules template under "other" in downloads. I don't know how long that's been there... checking it out now.

EWQLSO rules use the mysterious Instrument ID. Perhaps that won't be necessary with Group ID rule?

Not necessary. They could still be useful, but not necessary.

The idea behind Group ID rules is that they can be setup specifically to an instrument. It is correct that instrument ID's are not needed in this configuration because the rules are told to work within the score based on which staff or staves you have set the rule to. You can place the Group ID anywhere in the score on multiple staves and the instrument is then told to perform with that set of rules.
