Transpose Key question

Postby rothwells » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:11 pm

Hi... I'm VERY sorry if I sound dumb...but... Notion is my first scoring software.

I am manually entering in a jazz band score. I used the Big Band template. Everything sounds great when I entered piano, EBass, Trombone. But when I entered the notes on the Alto Sax, it sounds terrible.

I verified that the proper key signature is on the staff (matches the printed sheet music) I also ensured that Eb is set as the transpose in Score Setup. But it's still playing the wrong notes In fact, (and maybe I'm doing something wrong), if I go to score setup and change the transpose from Eb to C, it still plays the same (wrong) notes on the Sax.

Hopefully this is just a newbee mistake.

Can anyone help me and tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm happy to attach the notion file if needed.

Thanks!

Notion has several ways to view transposed staves. My guess is that you are in Concert C view but notating as if transposed. You can view in concert C relative to the instrument's octave, view the actual sounding pitch, and view transposed. Make sure you have the appropriate view selected. Check the manual for the details.
