Howdy Notion users, I am a new user and I am wondering how the samples are handled in Notion3. Are they streamed off the harddrive or stored in the ram as they are played.
If they are streamed off the harddrive, can I use a USB2 hardrive to stream the samples??
Thanks Peace Ben

Re: Newbie Question
Hi Ben,
As I'm a relatively newbie to Notion, but not to MIDI and the technology, let me just say that streaming from a USB drive is likely to cause problems. My own experience using East West libraries that do use streaming is that they need a fast drive to be successful, especially if you are using a full orchestration.
My impression is that Notion loads its samples into memory rather than streaming them.
My own take on this is to use a good laptop that has an eSATA socket. I use a 7200 rpm 500 GB drive on this interface, and EWQLSO gold and symphonic choirs work well with this. Switching the external drive to USB mode and re-plugging it gives problems. EWQLSO pre-loads an initial sample then streams what it doesn't pre-load, like the hall reverb.
For non streaming use it works, but samples just load more slowly.
HTH?
