I'm not, in any way, willing to start the library wars over here. I'd just like to read some general opinions on the advantages of the different libraries, how good is their compatibility with Notion (as if some of the libraries are better or more easily controlled by the software), and barely how are the pricing and disk sizes of them.
So far, I've been using Notion3 instruments and I find them quite good, but some of them seem to be better than others. The French Horn and the Clarinet are among the best I listened, but I have no experience with other libraries. I'm looking for the best cost and disk effective library that can best complete Notion instruments, in your opinion.
Thanks!

Vienna instruments are exceptionally good, in my opinion... and they are well implemented in Notion.
I only have the SE edition, but I use it all the time. At 75 euros, you can buy the standard woodwinds SE as a download, and hear for yourself...Miroslav is good, for being an old library... I also like EWQL gold, but the editing possibilities are limited, and there's no true legato...

I suppose the forum’s administrators deleted posts that were against the rules:

In my last post I mentioned a sound library different than the ones advertised by NOTION.
Mentioning a different product that can be used with NOTION is against the rules?

I don't think this is a case of repression.

nor do I... it happens sometimes that a website has problems, or it's been attacked or whatelse, and the administrators have to go back to the last backup they have, thus losing the most recent posts... that might be the case

Re: GPO vs. Miroslav vs. Vienna vs. EWQL vs. Notion3?
After a closer look to GPO4 and Miroslav Philharmonik, I wish I could merge both in one library.
GPO sounds are cleaner, and dry. MIROSLAV sounds are a little noisy but still very beautiful, but hard-recorded with a cinematic reverb which is also beautiful but can't be removed.
Most Miroslav instruments only have 1/2 tone trills, so this kills any recorded trill use (since Notion has to choose between playing the sampled trill or play the trill notes - it can't play the 1/2 trills by sample AND the whole tone trills by notes). GPO has 1/2 and whole tone trills, but they decided to made them 'playable' for solo strings, as with the tremolo, so neither can be used from Notion (trills have to be simulated, and there's no tremolo). Section strings and other GPO instruments are ok.
The GPO/ARIA player has some controls that can be accessed via MIDI and that's good for custom rules and midi recording control. But it doesn't have the effect collection Miroslav has. Miroslav, for instance, has a <tremolo> effect that can be used to produce tremolo or fluttertongue technique on a channel. That would solve the lack of these tremolo/flutter samples in some GPO instruments. Miroslav player's controls don't seem to be accessible via midi commands, which is bad, but at least you can define new channels and set different settings for each: a glissando+legato channel for glissandos, tremolo-effected for tremolos, and other effects and equalizations to simulate techniques like col legno or sul ponticello/sul trasto.
I would like a single instrument with the best of both worlds. Well, just dreaming awake, please don't mind my mini-rant.

I was wrong - the Miroslav player is actually a version of the Sampletank engine - and all knobs can be associated to midi controls (cc).

Re: GPO vs. Miroslav vs. Vienna vs. EWQL vs. Notion3?
I use a mixture of Vienna Symphonic Library Special Edition and EWSO. I find the VSL work well with crescendos/diminuendos and slurring for the most part. EWSO doesn't respond to crescendos/diminuendos as far as I can see unless I'm missing something. I have been having trouble with strings on both of them getting that smooth feel and even the slurring in VSL doesn't work very well for me. I find fiddling around with the overlay (note start and stops) can help things out. I love the woodwinds of VSL but when you get the special edition you will end up having to buy the "plus" package for the woodwinds because none of the them have any trill samples included.
You can end up getting some amazing sounds with these 2 packages and I will NEVER go back to a DAW. Hopefully we'll be able to manually edit controller data soon!
