rests

Postby composerwithnotion3 » Wed Jun 08, 2011 2:53 am

how do I fill ,say, 30 bars with rests but without every bar having an individual rest? I mean by writing a longer, single bar with a 'stretched' rest (can't remember how it's called ) and with a number that indicates for how many bars the rest will have to be used.

thanks :)

Notion calls them multi-measure rests. I've never used them myself, but there's a tiny bit of info on page 3.11 of the pdf manual, which might help you.

thanks my friend.

there wasn't any change even after setting to 8 . I have to print my music out for a course examination.... having 32 bars with individual rests for a particular instrument ,looks very unprofessional.

How you guys learn to use this program? do you read the whole manual from start to finish? I think Notion is a good program but it should have a manual with many 'how to,' and flash videos, which it doesn't.

thanks again for the help though....cheers

Yes, you need to go through the manual start to finish (which doesn't take as long as you'd think). My version of Notion came with sort of a "quick guide." The full featured guide can be found in the help menu under "user guide." There are some flash video tutorials, but I'm not sure if any of them address your questions on rests (http://www.notionmusic.com/support/tutorials.html).

Hum, yes, I just tried it myself and it didn't do anything... :?

I don't tend to read manuals. I've learnt through a combination of experimentation and guesswork.

I believe that you have to view your music as a part (Score>Dynamic Parts> [staffname]) in order to see multimeasure rests. And set the "multi-measure rests" item in Score>Parts Options to 2.

^ aha, yes, that works (but only if there are two or more instruments in the file, which is a bit daft).
