Hello everyone,
I want to use a sampled trill of a VSTi instrument (Sonic Implant Library). I have customize the custom rule file and added several techniques and articulations like pizzicato, staccato etc. They all work fine. The trill mark does not give the sound of the sampled trill. Notion support gave me two rules for a trill <if technique is "trhf"/> for half step trills and <if technique = "trwh" for whole step trills. Unfortunately they did not work with the trill mark nor is there a trillmark in the VSTi Pallet. Is there someone who has got this working or have a workaround for it.
Best regards,
Frieda

Re: Use Sampled trill with trillmark "tr"l
Hi,
Here are the 2 rules I used:
<rule>
<if technique = "trhf" />
<key-switch type="note-on-prefix" midi-pitch="19" velocity="1" />
</rule>
<rule>
<if technique = "trwh" />
<key-switch type="note-on-prefix" midi-pitch="20" velocity="1" />
</rule>
Hope you can help.
Best regards,
Frieda

Did you already have the trills written (the actual music notation trills) when you wrote this rule? I've found that I need to reload the sample player when I adjust/tweak my rules files.

Re: Use Sampled trill with trillmark "tr"l
Hi,
In the meanwhile I've made a new small Custom rule files with only three articulations/techniques (normal,Whole and half trill). That did not work either. But then I followed your advice and it ... works! Many thanks.
I tried to reproduce it with the larger custom rule file with a lot of articulations/techniques in it. It 's not working yet. But I know now thanks to you that the rules for half and whole trill work. I will built a new file and let you know how it went.
By the way do you know if you can rename the custom_rules.prule in a more proper filename?
Best regards,
Frieda

Going through some older posts here to help someone and I came across this, but I don't quite understand what the problem was here that ended up getting corrected. Also, what did you mean, pcartwright, in saying you needed to "reload the sample player?"

Re: Use Sampled trill with trillmark "tr"l
The best way to explain is by using an example.
Let's say I rewrote a rule for GPO's trumpet. The change will take effect on new projects using GPO's trumpet (assuming the rule file has been written correctly); however, the rules aren't applied to files that already have GPO's trumpet (i.e. previously saved projects). To work around this, I reassign the GPO trumpet staff in a project saved prior to the rule adjustment to something else (say Notion's trumpet). Then I simply reassign (again) the file from Notion trumpet back to GPO trumpet.
It appears that rules are stored in each project (and perhaps each staff) at the time of staff creation/assignment (at least it appears that way based on this behavior). Regardless, the updated trumpet rules will work once the Aria player is shut down and reopened which is done using the method outlined above.

Are you sure? I did not notice this when I was trying to correct the legato issues, and it was very easy to notice in that case because of Aria's pedal indicator. I had written a line for violins, and played it with Notion's default GPO rules, looking at the Aria interface as it played. As expected, the sustain pedal in Aria turned white to indicate it was active. I then went in and changed the rules to point "under-slur" to CC #68. Upon doing this, I quit Notion and then start it up again, and playing it back this time, the sustain pedal did not turn white to indicate being depressed. After this, I was still unsatisfied with the legato (as I discussed in the other topic) and so I added the rule to change controller #21 when "under-slur" and, after restarting Notion, I can now see Arias' note length knob turning up for slurred notes and back down for non-slurred notes. I never had to go through assigning and and re-assigning to make this work.
Perhaps its related to one of the newer builds? Or, perhaps I'm just completely wrong - but I am quite positive I used the same file throughout all of my rule tweaking.

It could be related to the build. I haven't adjusted my GPO rules in about 6ish months.
