I am very interested in this program. For me the playback is important. I like the "Human-Playback"-feature in Finale. It plays back accents, staccatos, legato, slurs, falloffs, doits, trills, and most everything you put in the score. Also text-instructions like pizz., rit, etc.
It also make mod-wheel-data, aftertouch and keyswitches etc.
If I want I can also write the text-instructions in my own language, just link it to the original one.
I had tried Sibelius also, but the playback there was bad, I think. (Out of the box. Maybe you get better results if you tweak much).
How is the playback in Notion3, vs Finale HP? Is it possible to edit the "hp" in inotion? F.ex. if write "rit.", how strong the ritardando will be?

This is probably one of Notion's strongest points...realistic playback without hassle. Everything from your articulations to accel. or rit. and even a "swing" feature that allows you to have the playback do just that "swing." It's also adjustable, so you can determine how much you want your parts to "swing."

In Finale we also can adjust the amount of swing. The "HP" can also be adjusted for "classic", "romantic", "baroque", "jazz" -performance, and a lot more styles.
So my question is still, is Notion almost just as good (or maybe better)?
But it looks promising! I can't hadrly wait to try the demo . When can we expect this?

IMHO Notion's playback and handling of dynamics/techniques blows away anything Finale has to offer....I'm a bit biased though
You can expect the demo sometime in the next few weeks...can't give you an exact date yet, but it'll be available via download.

In the meantime, here is a snippet of N3 triggering EWQL Platinum, posted in another forum by dcoscina:

Re: Notion playback vs Finale Human Playback (HP)
If I got it right, Notion3 reads e.g. staccato markings and play back the right sample, if the techniques is sampled. But what will happen if I will use midi devices (or libraries) without own samples for staccato, accents, snare rolls etc. Will Notion3 try to make those techiques (by playing shorter notes for staccato, or louder for accents etc)?

If the device or library doesn't have the samples you'll be able to use them for the "printed" version and they will be visible but will not play...otherwise N3 will play any articulation that's been mapped (included libraries).

Maybe this is something you can include in a later version? As you understand, i compare with HP in Finale, and there the program makes this techiques, if there is non samples. (Staccato, accent, trills, fallofs, doits, drum rolls etc). If the technique is sampled, then let the program use this. If not let the program try to make them by using shorter notes (staccato), CC (pitchbend) for doits/fallofs, etc.

Re: Notion playback vs Finale Human Playback (HP)
I guess I didn't completely understand your question....maybe I still don't. Are you asking for the program to "substitute" samples for "similar" samples while using a midi device (keyboard, gutiar, wind, etc...) or while using a sample library that doesn't have specific samples for playback?
What libraries are you using that don't have these samples? As of right now I'd suggest only using the libraries with included sound sets for N3....all of those definitely have the samples you suggested.
Sorry if this is confusing, just trying to understand your question a bit better.

Re: Notion playback vs Finale Human Playback (HP)
Pardon my english. I am norwegian
Midi device was a bit confusing, I think. I meant synths as Roland JV1010 for example. They have not samples for different techiques. By the way, this is not a problem for me anymore, I had sold mine.
But I also meant another libraries that maybe not have this techinques sampled, or maybe N3 don't have the presets for it yet. Myself I have Xsample Chamber Ensemble, Garritan Gofriller, Garritan Strad, Garritan JABB, Kontakt 3 (and some small others). I think a lot of them has some techiques sampled, but maybe not all. (What about trills? are they sampled?).
Therefor I my idea is that Notion3 could substitute these techniques. Then we could use them while we are waiting for a preset, or for libraries that don't have these techiques sampled. That will makes the playback better than only the "plane" notes.
I had not tried N3 yet. I will order it soon. Maybe this is not a problem at all. For me Notion looks very promising, and I hope it is as good in playback as HP in Finale (or even better).
