Apply instrument features

This topic may be poorly named; I apologize in advance:

Is there anyway to apply some of the playback features to a VSTi? In this case, I've added TruePianos to my score and am trying to write a gliss but TruePianos isn't recognized as a piano so the gliss is played back chromatically instead of playing back just the white keys. Is this something that can be solved using custom rules?
