hearing vocal staff?

I understand that Notion doesn't have a virtual singer (like Harmony Assistant from Myriad Software has), but I am very surprised that choosing a vocal staff appears to output no sound at all. I certainly want to hear the notes I'm putting in a vocal staff. What is the standard expected procedure here?
