how to insert or delete bar lines AFTER notating?

so as to change the structure of the piece after writing it , i.e. making it longer....basically the same thing you see in sequencers. Insert or delete measures

Simply press *i* and put the cursor at the point you want to add a measure or to slice an existing one in pieces.
Select a barline and backspace to delete.
